Foods That Wake You Up

You know, sometimes we all need a little boost in the morning. Everyday stresses do add up and some days you just feel a little slow and down.  For those days, what do we typically do? We grab another cup of coffee. What if you’ve had your fill of coffee for the day and you feel that you need something else to lift you up? How about trying a new breakfast!

The folks at RealAge suggest consuming yogurt and eggs at breakfast. Why is that? It turns out that both yogurt and eggs have a significant amount of tyrosine, an important component in two brain chemicals that wake you up.

Tyrosine helps make the wake-up brain chemicals dopamine and norepinephrine. "Studies show that people tend to think more quickly and feel more motivated and energetic when their brains are producing large amounts of these chemicals," writes Selene Yeager in the book New Foods for Healing.

Selene Yeager has a book out! Well, I’m gonna buy it. Just this last week, I professed that I was a fan of her work in Bicycling Mag. http://blog.wide-body.com/2009/02/09/10-fitness-resolutions.aspx

Are there other foods that also provide tyrosine, and thus wake up your brain? Why yes, there are other foods, and you can find them here: http://www.realage.com/ct/eat-smart/food-and-nutrition/tip/8090

And, by the way, there is nothing wrong with your coffee consumption. As I posted back in November, drinking coffee does not lead to a greater mortality rate. Some folks might even claim that drinking coffee is what gives them life!
