Hummus or Salsa?

I have stated my pleasure in partaking in Mediterranean dishes. Asking me if I like hummus, and I can't say "YES!" fast enough. You all know that I grew up in Texas, so you can figure that I like salsa and it is used as a condiment for just about any meal. I haven't tried salsa on cold cereal, but that doesn't mean I won't try it. I'm just looking for the right cereal.

So with my blessed joy and knowledge of these foods, this seemed like such an easy question when it was asked of me, "Which one has lower calories, hummus or salsa?" Pfft! Well duh, salsa of course. Great, here's a spoon, why don't you go have a great big bowl of the stuff.

Excuse me?

Those tricky SOBs.......of course salsa is lower in calories than hummas, but you never eat salsa by itself. And there is the rub.

The cats over at Cooking Light have done another side by side comparison for us, and this is what they found: http://www.cookinglight.com/cooking/hl/nutrition/slideshow/0,14401,-1843686-3,00.html

Hummus: (2 tablespoons) and carrot sticks (1/4 cup): 60 calories, 3 grams fat, 1 gram fiber, 105 milligrams sodium

Tomato salsa: (2 tablespoons) and tortilla chips (1 ounce): 147 calories, 7 grams fat, 0.5 gram fiber, 187 milligrams sodium

One problem, I don't eat hummus with carrot sticks. I use pita bread. I'm sure carrots are good but  OOOOHHHHHH, I know....hummus mixed with salsa and scooped with a carrot! Perfect.
