Wide-Bodies Are Healthy Bodies

You folks know that I have made it known that I am not now, nor have I ever been, known as "skinny". "Athletic built", "Husky", "Mesomorph", "Wide-Body" are the proper descriptions of my build. There was a time where I really wanted the trim torso and keep the breadth of my chest because I thought that would look muy cool, but I came around to the reality of my frame and accepted that the way I'm built is pretty cool already.

But how healthy am I. Sure, maybe I could shed a few pounds, yet how many other guys do you know who are built like me who about to run their third marathon in 12 months? I must doing okay, right?

So, there is good news for the wide-body community! A new study notes that it is better to be a little overweight and active than thin and inactive.

Details are located here: http://www.realage.com/WorkOutCenter/Articles.aspx?aid=10290

Studies suggest that people who are physically active and overweight have lower rates of cardiovascular disease and mortality than people who are inactive and thin. So whether you're slender or voluptuous, big and tall or thin and small, making physical activity a regular part of your life is vital to improving your health and making your RealAge younger.

The health risks associated with being slightly or moderately overweight are less clear-cut. Some studies suggest that being moderately overweight is not linked with an increased risk in mortality, particularly among people who are physically fit. And some researchers are advocating a change in the current categories of overweight.

One reason is that some standard weight and size measurements, such as body mass index (BMI), are not accurate predictors of health risks. BMI, for example, doesn't distinguish between fat and muscle, and it doesn't measure visceral fat -- the fat surrounding abdominal organs.

Folks, this is huge. EMBRACE YOUR WIDE-BODY!!

Wide-bodies have power! Wide-bodies are active, athletic, and have grace. Don't lose the physical gift you've been given but sitting on the couch and slumping into old age. Get up and be the active wide-body you always wanted to be.
