Vitamin D - The Fountain of Youth

Ah yes, Traveler. What is it you seek?

Oh Swami, I search for the Fountain of Youth. I am told it resides here, and based on your appearance, I'd say that you are a regular imbiber of the fountain.

Thank you, Traveler. Flattery will get you everywhere.

So, Swami, you will tell me where the Fountain lies.

Oh course, dear Traveler. The Fountain of Youth is above you now, racing across the sky as we speak. If you miss it today, no worries, it will be back tomorrow.

Okay, so that wasn't the next great American novel, but I used it to prove a point. As humans, we continue to look for some magical anti-aging mechanism that will stop the progress of time. Instead, we should be looking at ourselves, and if we did, we would realize the the greatest anit-aging vitamin in the world, vitamin D, is produced within us, and all we need is about 10-15 miuntes in the sun.

And check this out:
A lack of vitamin D is actually fairly common in the United States; up to 40 percent of people may not be getting enough. And shortfalls increase with age. Not good, because a study recently revealed that people 65 and older who are low on D do poorly on tests of handgrip strength, walking speed, balance, and the ability to stand up from a seated position.

Can you get your vitamin D from milk? Sure, but it turns out that many of us aren't drinking all that much milk. And for folks in northern climates, the sun will be at a low slant over the next few months, so consider supplements if you start to feel sluggish. Check with your doctor before you start supplements and see if they have a recommendation for you.
