Olympian Recipes
This article almost feels like a joke, but it is very real and serious. http://runningtimes.com/Article.aspx?ArticleID=14309&PageNum=1
Put into context that Running Times magazine is a serious magazine for runners, and I mean very competitive runners. THese are folks burning incredible amounts of calories each day, and more than or I will burn because:
1) Our age
2) We have lives which entail a job that doesn't center around running all day.
So, Running Times put out this article "Eat Like an Olympian", which is a list of recipes from Olympian's favorite dishes. I could hardly believe some of the ingredients and volumes. But then again, these folks consume a ton of fuel and burn it all off.
For instance:
"The Webb" Sandwich
Alan Webb
Ingredients
2 slices whole grain bread
4-6 tablespoons peanut butter (chunky or smooth)
2-3 tablespoons applesauce
or
Mint Oreo Ice Cream Cake
Sara and Steve Slattery
Ingredients
4 cups Oreo cookie crumbs (or plain chocolate cookie crumbs)
1/2 cup melted butter or shortening
1/2 gallon cookies and cream ice cream (a quality ice cream)
3 cups Cool Whip
1-1/2 cups marshmallow cream
2 teaspoons mint extract
chocolate sauce
Call me surprised. I figured there would be some more healthy alternatives. At least these folks aren't pulling punches and they are showing us what they really do eat.
wide-body, health, fitness, lifestyle, food, everyday athletes, mesomorphs, calories, exercise, swimming, running, training
